Onesies Come of Age

Onesies use to be the invisible piece of children's clothing. White, pink or blue were about your only color choices, cost no more than a couple of bucks and they were buried beneath the real showcase items that baby would wear.

Now onesies are a fashion statement all their own and people drop some significant change on designer onesies from Ed Hardy, DKNY, Armani... Name a designer and they have thrown their name on a onesie and are charging $30 or more.

Of course you may not subscribe to dressing up your child in a designer onesie for any number of reasons. You can't bring yourself to spend $10 - $20 - $30 or more on a onesie. You might not live in an area where the weather allows for frequent onesie wear without another layer or two over top or perhaps you just don't see the point of dressing your child in fancy onesies.

So are these onesies really worth the money, well I suppose it depends on whether you have a spare $20 to spend on your little one but if you are going to spend the cash make sure you are getting a quality product.

Most onesies are made in China, Indonesia or India. They are made out of cheap cotton and have snaps or buttons with nickel in them which can cause allergic reactions in baby’s new skin. Although this is not always the case more often than not this is the case when the onesie comes from these countries.

When buying a onesie, designer or not, check and see where it is made. American or Canadian produced onesies tend to be made of a better quality. Although the cotton is made over seas, it is usually better quality and the hardware is nickel free. Finally, stitching and thread quality tends to be much better, therefore the clothing holds up better and you can get a couple kids worth of use out of it.

Onesies are fun, easy to get on and off baby and nowadays just as stylish as a whole outfit. Great for warmer weather and making a statement they are just one of the many items that people just have to have for baby's wardrobe.

Just be discriminating when choosing your onesie and make sure you are getting a good quality garment.
